Welcome to WebRoots, we’re an organisation dedicated to resourcing website creation for social projects. Whether for a community centre mahjong club or a grass-roots union initiative, WebRoots wants to help you get a website and reach more members of your community.
Host web forms to get volunteers, publish your events calendar directly to your website, or share parish meeting slides - a website is a fantastic way to reach more people in your area and build a digital hub for your community. Not understanding exactly how to go about building a website can be a bit of an obstacle, so WebRoots was founded to make sure that people who wanted to put their community online were able to.
Getting a WebRoots designed website is a simple three step process:
you fill out an initial form by clicking the button that says "Apply for a website by clicking here", and we will get in touch with you from the email address savva@pistolas.co.uk.
We’ll book a time to meet with you on Zoom or via a telephone call, and confirm that a WebRoots site will meet your needs. In this meeting, we’ll chat about what you want the website to look like, and you’ll be asked to fill out a second form that contains the details you want on the site.
We get in touch with you when the website is completed - and induct you on how to use the site safely and securely, as well as how to edit it and add new pages.
Our process makes sure that you know how the website works, and can make changes to it yourself. We also make sure to provide some cyber security awareness training. We’ll check in with you one month after we finish to check-in and ask how you’re doing!
Having a website for your project should be a peaceful experience, and so keeping your website safe and well configured is folded into our design process. The way we design our websites places almost all the security decisions of the site with Google, and attaches the permissions to edit the site to one Google account. We help you set this account up securely, using a good password and something called multi-factor authentication.
In addition, we also provide 30 minutes of free Security Awareness Training to make sure that you’re comfortable with how to stay safe with your new website, and protect yourself online. We take any and all questions in these sessions and they are 1-to-1, delivered over Zoom. Training is delivered by a working professional cyber security consultant.
